In its place, for the first time in a SE Asian country other than Burma, we're offering a Fusion Dhamma retreat in a Burmese monastery in Thailand at the invitation of two wonderful Burmese masters.

Wat Tamao, a Burmese monastery & meditation center rests in a tree-shaded area of Lampang, south of Chiang Mai. Lampang is renowned for a rich & ancient Dhamma culture & interconnection with Burma.

buddhastature The Burmese monastery has been guided by Sayadaw U Dhamma Nanda, of Mandalay, Burma for over 50 years. Sayadaw is now 88: such a bright, loving presence, he fills Wat Tamao with lightness, beauty and pure Dhamma. Sayadaw U Gandhasara, the resident meditation master, trained with U Dhamma Nanda as well as at Mandalay Mahasi Center, Burma. The Sayadaw teaches regular retreats at Wat Tamao.

DevoteeSayadaws Dhamma Nanda and Gandhasara generously offer the gorgeous and peaceful confines of Wat Tamao to Sayadaw U Lakkhana, of Kyaswa Monastery, Sagaing Hills in February 2008 for our 12-year tradition of Fusion Dhamma retreats in Asia. Vipassana Hawai'i teachers Steven Smith from Hawai'i and either Michele McDonald, Guiding Teacher of Hawai'i Insight Meditation Center, North Kohala, Hawai'i, or Lynne Bousfield, Vipassana Hawai'i Senior Teacher from Australia, will teach with the Sayadaw.

Fusion Dhamma Retreats unite East and West; monk and layperson; classical style and contemporary metaphor, to create a powerful container for relevant transmission of the Buddha's timeless lineage of liberation teachings. The retreat follows traditional monastic form with the exception that U Gandhasara allows for an evening meal for yogis if desired. Wat Tamao has 22 individual rooms with private bath for 22 yogis.
