Location
Goa's Beach Retreat: low-key simple yet idyllic resort in a coconut grove on the beach of Golden Buddha Island. Thatched-roofed tent platforms & open pavilions for meditation & dinning provide accommodation for a 7-day retreat emphasizing seamless mindfulness in a natural wilderness environment far from the busyness of the world. Goa's Eco-Retreat is an hour by boat from the southern Thai coastal region of Kuraburi, Phangnga.
Structure
The retreat follows a structured schedule of sitting & walking meditation in the Burmese tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw and is suitable for those who have previously practised in this tradition as well as all new students. Silent meditation practice sessions are interspersed with and supported by instruction, guidance and interviews. There is time for unstructured but mindful swimming and beach walks. Students follow the 5 training precepts of non-harming basic to vipassana meditation: not killing, not stealing, celibacy, not lying and not taking drugs, alcohol or intoxicants.
About Vipassana Meditation
Vipassana (Insight) meditation is the development of understanding or 'insight' through the cultivation of mindfulness. Mindfulness transforms confusion and painful emotions into understanding and composure. This understanding equips us to help ourselves with our problems. It is the Buddha's direct path to happiness.
Dana
Dana is a subtle and sophisticated approach to the teacher/student exchange. An appropriate dana cannot be prescribed but we do need to be sensitive to its intent in that the responsibility for meeting all costs and expenses associated with the teachings (including in this case venue/food costs, airfares, and the livelihood of the teacher) is borne collectively by the students attending the workshop.
