First, please log in.

Go to Sangha Forums and choose the forum of your choice. (There is a new one called "Retreats" for comments and reports on, and photos of, retreats.)

Click on Post new forum topic.

Adding your text

Fill out the title, choose the forum (if it's not already correct), and type the body of your message. Rereading is a good idea. Grin. (Click on the image at right for a larger view.)

You might want to preview and/or submit your text before going on to add photos. You'll find the Preview and Submit buttons at the bottom of your screen.

Adding the photo(s)

Place the cursor. (Click (to set the cursor) wherever you'd like your first photo to appear.)

Look for the little tree icon under the body text area. That's the "add photo" icon.

Click on it (the upload icon). After clicking on it, you should be presented with the following screen:

Next, you'll want to choose your photo. It should be either a .jpg, .gif or .png.

Look for the little icon to the right of the "image URL" input field. It looks like this:

Click on it to get to begin the photo-upload process.

You'll see the "upload" screen.

Click on "Browse" at the bottom of the pop-up window. Find your file just as if you are looking for something to attach to an e-mail message.

Select your file and you'll be brought back to the upload screen.

You should see the "path" to your photo in the lower-left-hand input field next to the "Browse" button.

(If you're using Internet Explorer, unclick "Scale if necessary." You can do it later.)

Click on "Upload File."

Wait for your photo to be sent from your computer to vipassanahawaii.org.

Next, you'll be shown a preview of the file (photo).

Important asides

* If you are using Internet Explorer, and you did not unclick "Scale if necessary," you got some errors and your photo didn't upload. No problem. (Really.) Just unclick (uncheck) the "Scale if necessary" now and browse and upload your photo again.

** If you are using Internet Explorer, and you _did_ unclick "Scale if necessary," then you can type in the dimensions you want now. Type in the first box (width) first. Hit tab and the machine will calculate the second window's proper value. Nice, huh?

Now, on with the ... how-to:

Click on "add."

The path to your image will be inserted into the photo upload pop-up.

Fill out the rest of the info. Experiment with left and right "Alignment." It's fun. Grin.

When ready to see what your work will look like to a visitor/reader, click on "Insert."

You'll be brought back to the forum posting screen.

Save your work frequently

It's a good time to go to the bottom of the page and "submit." You can always go in and make more changes, including adding more photos, but as we all know, it's smart to save your work often.

Return to your post to re-read it. Click on the "edit" tab to make changes. Repeat the above process if you want to add more photos. (Remember to click to place the cursor before you browse for a photo.)
