Teachers
Michele McDonald and Jesse Vega-Frey
Join Michele and Jesse for this ten-day silent retreat with a focus on Vipassana meditation and mindfulness practice.
Michele has taught Insight meditation for 26 years in the United States, Canada, Burma and elsewhere around the world. She is most inspired by her practice with Dipa Ma and Sayadaw U Pandita. Her style of teaching emphasizes helping individuals find entry points into stillness that are natural for them. She encourages understanding of the path of insight and a gentle strengthening of mindfulness so that people can access the peaceful dpeths of their experience in every moment.
Jesse is part of the guiding leadership for The Stone House and a committed meditation practitioner. He is also on the board of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship.
Location
"The Stone House is wonderfully situated for a meaningful experience of quiet and solitude while still within close proximity to major urban areas and activities. We are just six miles off of exit 154 from Interstate 85 South/40 West. Mebane is 25 miles from Durham, Chapel Hill and Raleigh, and approximately 35-40 miles from Greensboro and Winston-Salem."

Dana
Traditionally the teachings of the Buddha have been supported by the practice of dana. Dana is the development of generosity: a valuable foundation for meditation practice. In this tradition of Vipassana meditation the teachings to students are given freely. In return students support the livelihood of the teachers through the gift of dana.
Dana is a subtle and sophisticated approach to the teacher/student exchange. An appropriate dana cannot be prescribed but we do need to be sensitive to its intent in that the responsibility for meeting all costs and expenses associated with the teachings (including in this case venue/food costs, airfares, and the livelihood of the teacher) is borne collectively by the students attending the workshop.
