Insight Meditation

Non-Residential Weekend Retreat
with Lynne Bousfield at Oasis Holistic

22, 23 & 24 August 2008

Lynne Bousfield Vipassana (Insight) meditation is the development of understanding or "insight" through the cultivation of mindfulness. Mindfulness transforms confusion and painful emotions into understanding and composure. This understanding equips us to help ourselves with our problems. It is the Buddha's direct path to happiness.

Friday 22 August - Sunday 24 August (please attend all

sessions)(Registration: www.oasisholistic.com)

Friday (7.30 - 9.00pm: Introduction, orientation to the weekend, beginning meditation instructions) Saturday (9am - 5pm: Silent meditation practice sessions interspersed with guidance/lecture/personal and group interview. There will be ample opportunity for discussion and questions) Sunday (8am - 1.30pm: Meditation practice sessions and exploration of the application of meditation to daily life, including obstacles to practice)

The retreat is suitable for those who have previously practiced in this tradition, as well as all new students to meditation. The weekend will provide a coherent, systematic training in meditative technique supported by structured teaching sessions and interviews.

Please bring your own lunch on Saturday. Tea will be provided by Oasis.

Course cost: there is no set fee to cover Oasis's or Lynne's costs - the weekend is offered on Dana - see below.

Dana

Traditionally the teachings of the Buddha have been supported by the practice of dana. Dana is the development of generosity: a valuable foundation for meditation practice. In this tradition of Vipassana meditation the teachings to students are given freely. In return students support the livelihood of the teachers through the gift of dana.

Dana is a subtle and sophisticated approach to the teacher/student exchange. An appropriate dana cannot be prescribed but we do need to be sensitive to its intent in that the responsibility for meeting all costs and expenses associated with the teachings (including in this case Oasis costs, airfares, and the livelihood of the teacher) is borne collectively by the students attending the workshop.

About Lynne Bousfield

Lynne Bousfield has been studying and practising Buddhist meditation for more than 30 years having commenced in Bodh Gaya, India in 1975. Since 1980 she has returned to Burma regularly to undertake intensive practice and develop her understanding of meditation and Buddhist psychology. She helped establish Vipassana Meditation in Australia and was a co-founder of the Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre (BMIMC). She teaches meditation retreats and courses regularly.

Lynne began working as a clinical psychologist in Sydney in 1992 and has developed a unique and special combination of skills from her meditation and clinical training. Her meditation understanding has allowed her to apply meditative practice as a means of transforming daily suffering into the foundation for a happier, meaningful life by loosening the grip of distressing mind states and emotions. Lynne is regularly invited to speak and present on her clinical work at national and international psychology conferences.
