VH is pleased to announce a unique first for our program:
Buddhist Psychology (Abhidhamma) Lecture Series & Practical (Vipassana) Instruction
July 25 - July 31, 2009 (Registration deadline is July 17th)
Grahame White and Daw Agganyani
Honolulu, Hawai'i
Abhidhamma — the “higher teachings” of the Buddha — is a systematic, logical, and applicable analysis and synthesis of the reality of a human being and the functioning of the mind. Often referred to as Buddhist psychology or philosophy, it offers a comprehensive vision of the totality of experienced reality, a vision marked by extensiveness of range, systematic completeness, and analytical precision.
Abhidhamma is like a mind-map. Being able to read it, we will find the way to freedom easier and will arrive quicker and safer at our goal. Abhidhamma also fits well with the practice of Insight (Vipassana) meditation. Virtually all Buddhists recognize the profound significance of Abhidhamma and can benefit from its teachings.
We are fortunate to have Samaneri Daw Agganyani, an experienced Abhidhamma teacher and meditation practitioner, as our lecturer. Daw Agganyani is a German Theravada nun and student of Sayadaw Dr. U Nandamala, founder of the Dhammavijjalaya Centre for Buddhist Studies in Burma. Daw Agganyani teaches Abhidhamma studies in Europe and will be available for questions and discussion (in English).
The series will be preceded by a free public lecture by Daw Agganyani
