MINDFULNESS MEDITATION IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

Second Annual Seven-Day Vipassana Retreat

W i t h G R A H A M E W H I T E

Friday July 11th - Friday July 18th 2008

SONOMA MOUNTAIN ZEN CENTER, SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA

0203.jpg At this traditional Vipassana retreat, we will undertake an exploration of the Buddha's teachings through silent periods of sitting and walking practice as well as daily Dhamma talks and group and individual interviews. In this form of practice we are able to understand and directly experience the truths of the Dhamma, allowing the mind to access calm, equanimity, and liberation. The retreat is suitable for both beginners and advanced practitioners.

About the Teacher

0183.jpg Grahame White is known locally for co-teaching the workshop series "On the Cushion-Off the Cushion" with Dr. Thynn Thynn at her center in Graton, and in 2007 he began teaching a week-long Vipassana retreat in Santa Rosa. Grahame's study with Burmese masters Mahasi Sayadaw, Sayadaw U Pandita, and Sayadaw U Kundala began 39 years ago. He had a primary role in the establishment of Vipassana meditation in Australia, and co-founded the Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Center outside Sydney. Grahame leads retreats in Sydney, and regularly teaches in Hawaii as well as northern California under the auspices of Vipassana Hawaii where he is a guiding teacher along with Steven Smith and Michele McDonald. He has a strong interest in the practice of mindfulness in everyday life. Grahame returns to Burma each year in order to deepen his practice and study of the Buddha's teachings.

Sonoma Mountain Zen Center, a beautiful mountaintop facility with a variety of simple accommodations, is about eleven miles southeast of Santa Rosa in rural Sonoma County.

Cost

0238.jpg Costs shown cover room and board only. In keeping with the Buddhist practice of dana (generosity) the teachings are offered freely. Grahame receives no payment and is providing for his own transportation. According to tradition, dana from students enables the teachers to continue their Dhamma work. At the end of the retreat, we will have the opportunity to offer a donation, which, in turn, encourages the cultivation of generosity.

Simple, shared accommodations

0193.jpg Room, yurt, or cabin for 3-6 people; tent-site; or RV/Camper space: $570.
A few private rooms may become available for $655.
All facilities are in a centrally located bathhouse.
